Give Up to Go Up
73Have you ever wondered why, sometimes in your life even through a lot of practice, preparations, trainings and various course of action you take, still, it seems like you’re not getting the results you want in the current endeavor or career you are in.
Probably, it’s because it takes more than practice to excel in anything. There are a lot of factors that affects one’s performance. And the greatest ones boil down to the person’s inner self. Aside from the specialized knowledge needed to perform, the person himself must have the innermost personal serenity light enough to soar high to the peak of excellence.
To illustrate my point, imagine a hot air balloon, the oldest successful human flight technology. At the start of the flight the balloon is tied with sand bags heavy enough to keep it still slightly above the ground allowing people to come in. Then to gain altitude, these heavy sand bags are slowly released leaving all the weights behind and there goes the balloon up high as it can in the sky!
The same goes with our careers in life. We are not getting any remarkable altitude maybe because a lot of heavy sand bags are keeping us from soaring high. These sand bags include some bad habits like procrastination, self doubt, fears, pride and our being unforgiving to others. These sand bags bring us negative feelings and drag us to unwanted circumstances thus making it very hard for us to focus on our goal.
Examine yourself, reflect and try to identify these baggages in your life that keeps you from soaring high. List them down in a piece of paper,(somewhat like the one below) and plan a definite course of action to release them. You won’t make it any higher unless you cut the ties and let go off these weights.
- Pride
- Procrastination
- Bad time and self management
- Self doubt
- Unforgivingness/hatred
- Fears
It’s easier said undone, but believe me, giving up is very hard to do. It takes time, sacrifice and persistence. Just start it anyway, as nothing ever gets done without being started. Persist and fuel your persistence with your deepest desire to succeed. And once you’re at the heights, the view is so beautiful. You will then realize that the happiness brought about by success is in appreciating the beautiful things that happen on your way to the top.

You had written one of the best hubs in the hubpages. i had voted up and awesome. it is very simple and straightway conveys the meaning of how to shed the negatives and bounce back. I had many time failed in my life and i admire Abraham Lincoln.. I had a similar motive hub which some people had liked it. And i always look for this type of topics and you are really different.

Very inspiring hub! You were lucky to have such a great mentor!
One important factor i identify with is procrastination. It is true that procrastination is the killer of dreams, ambition and goals. I truly accept your suggestions. This is a great hub. Well written and carefully arranged. You re talented.
I agree with your motivational hub. The life is like a journey with a lot of ups and downs. We need to accept everything that comes on the way but at the same time we must never give up to the difficulties. This is life. One must never let any factor affect his ambitions negatively.
Good work. I'm voting you up.
Good hub, keep it up!
An excellent and inspirational hub, very uplifting.

Good analogy of the hot air balloon being held back by sand bags as we ourselves are held back by our "baggage"
Well said. Excellent writing. Yes to connecting with the "inner most serenity light." This is how all of us can maintain more balance between mind, body, and spirit. Peace and Light...Gary.
